What is the Multi-Platform Text Length Previewer?

This is a free online tool that shows you in real time how your text will be truncated or cut off on different platforms. Whether you're crafting a tweet, optimizing a Google Search title, or sending an SMS campaign, each platform has its own character limit rules — and going over them hides your message. This tool lets you check all platforms simultaneously before you publish.

Why does SMS need special calculation?

SMS messages use two completely different encoding standards: GSM 03.38 (the GSM 7-bit standard) and Unicode (UCS-2). The number of characters per segment differs greatly between them:

  • Plain English and common Western European letters: GSM 7-bit encoding, 160 chars per SMS (153 per segment for multi-part)
  • Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, and most non-Latin scripts: switched to Unicode encoding, 70 chars per SMS (67 per segment for multi-part)
  • Extended characters (€ { } [ ] \
