What is a QR Code and How Does It Work?

A QR (Quick Response) code is a two-dimensional barcode capable of storing up to 4,296 alphanumeric characters, far more than traditional barcodes.

Invented in 1994 by Masahiro Hara of Denso Wave (Japan), the QR was designed to track automotive parts with high-speed reading. Today, it's the global standard for quickly sharing digital information by scanning with a smartphone.

Storage Capacity by Version: Up to 7,089 numeric digits, 4,296 alphanumeric characters, 2,953 bytes of binary data, or 1,817 Kanji/Kana characters. Error correction levels (L: 7%, M: 15%, Q: 25%, H: 30%) allow the QR to function even when partially damaged.

Security & Best Practices: Always verify the URL before scanning unknown QR codes. Avoid scanning codes in public places that could be tampered with. For businesses, use your own domain instead of generic shorteners. More info: QR Code Security Guide by Kaspersky
