What is the Pomodoro Technique?
The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method created by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. You break work into short focused intervals (a "pomodoro", 25 minutes by default) separated by short breaks, and take a longer break after every 4 pomodoros. This rhythm of short sprints plus enforced breaks helps fight procrastination and reduces the attention cost of constant task-switching. Read more at Wikipedia: Pomodoro Technique.
How is this different from a plain countdown timer?
- Task logging: Type the task you're focusing on before starting a session. Once it's finished, it's automatically saved to your browser's local storage as part of your personal work log.
- Daily pomodoro count: The page shows "X pomodoros completed today" in real time, so you always know today's focus output at a glance.
- 7-day trend chart: A simple bar chart shows how many pomodoros you finished each day over the last week, helping you spot whether your routine is consistent.
- Fully customizable cycle: Work length, short break, long break, and how many rounds before a long break — all adjustable and remembered automatically.
- Sound + browser notification: A gentle beep plays at the end of every session, and you can optionally enable browser notifications so you won't miss the alert even if you switch tabs.
How to use it
- Type the task you're about to work on (e.g. "Draft the quarterly report").
- Press Start — the timer counts down according to your work duration setting.
- When it hits zero, a sound plays and it automatically switches to a break, then back to work again, repeating the cycle.
- After completing the configured number of work rounds (4 by default), a longer break kicks in automatically.
- Come back anytime to see how many pomodoros you finished today and over the past week — this is designed to be the timer you keep returning to for tracking real progress.
